About our city

The District of Setúbal is mainly located in the Lisbon and Setúbal Region, and with 4 of its 13 municipalities integrated in the Alentejo Region; is located in the South of the Tagus, on the Atlantic Coast. Setúbal, the capital of the district of Setúbal, is located at the mouth of the river Sado.




At the cultural level, the district promotes the Festroia - International Film Festival of Setúbal, one of the most important cultural events, and the Feira de Sant'Iago, which, with more than four centuries of existence, continues to be the main event of the genre in the region, joining the crafts to the fun, without forgetting the musical shows.



With a maritime edge of exceptional fisherman's richness, the gastronomic identity of the region is affirmed in the fish dishes, of which deserve special reference the stew, the feijoada of choco, the skewer of monkfish, the fried cuttlefish and the soup of the sea. Not to mention the variety of dishes of roasted fish - from sardines and horse mackerel to flounder and mullet -, not to clams, shrimp and santola, delicacies that can be found on sunny terraces.



In the sweets, the pies, the sweet cheeses and the ones of Azeitão enjoy, equally, of just fame. It is also of these stops one of the great Portuguese cheeses: the cheese of Azeitão.
